Purchasing Engineer

Role Overview

As a
Purchasing Engineer

, you will be responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and procuring materials, components, and equipment required for production. You will work closely with the engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure suppliers meet technical, cost, and delivery requirements. This role combines engineering knowledge with strategic purchasing, making it ideal for individuals who want to bridge technical understanding with business and supply chain operations.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Sourcing

• Source, evaluate, and select suppliers based on quality, price, delivery performance, and reliability.
• Obtain and analyze quotations, negotiate terms, and issue purchase orders in accordance with company procedures.
• Maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure consistent material supply and responsiveness to production needs.
• Assist in cost analysis and continuous improvement of procurement processes.

Technical & Engineering Coordination

• Work closely with engineering teams to understand technical specifications, drawings, and requirements for purchased items.
• Evaluate supplier capability to meet technical requirements and recommend suitable vendors.
• Support new product development (NPD) by procuring prototype materials and assisting in technical evaluations.
• Collaborate with quality assurance and production departments to resolve technical or quality-related supplier issues.

Inventory & Supply Chain Management

• Monitor stock levels and coordinate material replenishment to prevent shortages or overstocking.
• Track supplier delivery schedules and ensure on-time deliveries to support production timelines.
• Coordinate logistics for local and overseas procurement including shipping, customs documentation, and delivery tracking.
• Ensure all purchased materials comply with company standards and customer requirements.

Vendor Development & Cost Control

• Conduct supplier performance reviews and participate in vendor audits when necessary.
• Identify opportunities for cost reduction through alternative sourcing, process improvement, or supplier negotiation.
• Maintain and update the Approved Vendor List (AVL) based on performance and quality metrics.

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, supplier contracts, and price histories.
• Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies, ethical standards, and ISO/IATF requirements.
• Prepare monthly procurement reports and assist in budget planning for purchasing operations.

Who We're Looking For

• Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related field).
• Minimum 1 year of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain (fresh graduates with strong interest in procurement are encouraged to apply).
• Strong understanding of technical specifications and ability to read engineering drawings.
• Basic knowledge of supply chain management, vendor sourcing, and cost analysis.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and ERP systems (SAP, AutoCount, or equivalent is an advantage).
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and able to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines.
• Strong teamwork skills with the ability to coordinate effectively across departments.
